ID verification group Onfido has picked up another UK customer in the form of e-scooter rental operator Voi.

As the UK opens up to e-scooters, Voi is currently running rental trials in the the West Midlands, Cambridge, Northampton, Liverpool, Bath and Bristol—more than any other operator.

However, the UK regulations for rentals include a legal requirement for riders to hold a valid driving licence—enter Onfido.

Onfido will handle the document verification, and is also working on providing rider ID to make sure the rider matches the driving licence.

Voi’s scooters have so far been used for over 100,000 rides across its six pilot programmes.

“We’re pleased to be partnering with Voi Scooters to introduce digital identity verification to confirm their riders’ eligibility and support their tenders for UK e-scooter trials,” said Kevin Trilli, chief product officer at Onfido.

“The ability for e-scooter riders to securely verify their identities is not only important for providing access to the service, but in guaranteeing the future of e-scooters in Britain’s micro-mobility sector by preventing the service from being exploited and misused by those that are not eligible during these important trials.”

Following its $100m fundraise in April, Onfido has been on a tear adding dozens of new customers including all-your-cards-in-one fintech Curve and alternative lenders EstateGuru and Bondora.

In July Kassai announced a 40 per cent jump in Onfido’s Q2 sales as the ID verifier was swamped with new businesses looking to digitise their processes as a result of lockdown.
