Based near Bordeaux, France, Implanet has announced that a surgery team at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital of Birmingham has just completed the first official surgery in the UK using Implanet’s JAZZ system.

This first in UK surgery comes on the heels of ‚Äú‚Ķ the recent listing of Implanet UK and its Jazz platform on the NHS (National Health Service) system, the United Kingdom’s public health system providing the bulk of care, particularly in hospitals, allows Implanet UK to offer Jazz to all public hospitals in the country.‚Äù

According to the company, “… the United Kingdom is the second largest market in Europe for spinal fusion back surgery. The potential in adult degenerative spine disease is estimated at over $100 million.”

Ludovic Lastennet, CEO of Implanet, told OTW, “Our strategy is to duplicate our success story from France and the U.S. by going direct into major countries. The UK and Germany are our targets for 2018. This allows us to have direct access to surgeons in order to better promote our technology.”

“The surgery went extremely well, and the JAZZ was used to protect screw at the top of the construct in a fusion surgery. This is a growing indication for our JAZZ platform and for the Band Technology.”

“The surgeon was very satisfied with the results. He highlighted the ease of use of Jazz, as well as the simplicity of the instrumentation. He will continue to use JAZZ in his future surgical activity. He is happy that JAZZ is now registered by NHS, as this allows Implanet UK to offer Jazz to all public hospitals in the country.”
